Lezley George is a London-based Welsh designer widely known for her dramatic yet wearable collections with a strong emphasis on innovative textures and the creation, decoration and manipulation of fabrics. After graduating with a First in Fashion Design and Marketing from The University of East London, she established her label in 1988.
In 1991 with support from the Welsh Development Agency Lezley George showed at London Fashion Week, making her catwalk debut in 1996. In 1993 Lezley George started exhibiting abroad, first in Paris, at Salon Tranoi, then in New York and Germany and more recently venturing to Milan for 'White', establishing the label as truly international with over 50 stockists world-wide. As a result Lezley George has been asked to show in countries as far flung as Uruguay and Argentina, New York and Hong Kong - as well as Australia, Vietnam, Singapore, across Europe and the Middle East. The Welsh Designer of the Year Award went to Lezley in 1995 in recognition of her global presence and her success at creating clothing for women who want to buy sculptural and innovative pieces which although maybe complicated to construct are not complicated to wear.
The core of Lezley’s collections will always be creative twists in fabric structure, be it innovative pleating and crushing or heat pressing techniques. Hand dyed colour effects and interesting finishes add a personal touch to her original designs. In order to constantly evolve her highly individual signature look Lezley continues to experiment with the latest techniques in fabric manipulation. Her own pleating machine and heat press guarantee that the textures she creates are truly unique.
